ON GUARD BJJ COMPETITOR CODE OF CONDUCT

You must review and accept the terms of our competitor code of conduct before registering for competition under On Guard BJJ.

1. Nobody is forcing you to compete. Being a competitor is your choice and yours alone. Parents may encourage their child to participate in a competition, but nobody shall be forced to compete in an event.

2. Representing On Guard BJJ in competition is a privilege. You must earn the right to compete under On Guard BJJ by demonstrating good class attendance, attitude, and character. You will be expected to show up to class and train hard leading up to the event in a consistent and productive fashion. The privilege of representing On Guard BJJ in competition can be revoked by the OG coaching staff at any time if the criteria is not met.

3. Every time you attend a tournament as a spectator, competitor, tournament staff, or parent, you are a representative of the academy. If you do not conduct yourself in a way that aligns with the values of On Guard BJJ, disciplinary action may be taken. This may include a suspension from competing or even ejection from the program altogether.

4. Inappropriate behavior at an event or tournament includes (but is not limited to): being disrespectful or aggressive to tournament staff, spectators, referees, coaches, your parents, or other competitors. This type of behavior is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action.

5. Quitting during an event: You can always cancel your registration before the tournament, but once your first match begins, you will be expected to do your best and complete your division (with the exception of injury).

6. You will be expected to do your best in competition with your full effort and represent the academy in a positive way. Winning is not a requirement to compete under On Guard BJJ, but effort and courage is.

7. Competitors will always shake the hand of the referee, opponents, and the coaches of the opponents. Being rude, storming off, and general lack of respect is strictly forbidden, and may result in disciplinary action.

8. Competitors don't have to agree with a referee's decision, but the referee's decision will always be respected.

9. Athletes will compete with integrity in an honorable and ethical manner. Any foul play, dirty tactics, showboating/grandstanding, or faking injuries to win will not be tolerated. Failure to fight with honor and integrity may result in disciplinary action from the coaching staff.

10. If you wish to register for a division above your skill level, you must get approval from OG coaching staff first.

11. Closing out: closing out in the finals with a teammate is forbidden. If you share the division with a teammate you do not wish to fight in the finals, do not register for that division.

12. It is your responsibility to know the rules of the competition before you participate. This ensures not only safe and fair play for all athletes, but maximizes your chances of success in competition. If you are unsure about anything regarding the rules of a competition or the legality of certain techniques, ask a coach before the competition begins. Repetitive disqualification losses may result in disciplinary action from OG coaching staff.
